Now used to find, flush<br \/> and retrieve game for gun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">GENERAL APPEARANCE : Symmetrically built, compact,<br \/> strong, merry, active. Highest on leg and raciest in build of all British<br \/> land Spaniels.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">BEHAVIOUR \/ TEMPERAMENT : Friendly, happy disposition,<br \/> biddable. Timidity or aggression highly undesirable.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">HEAD<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">CRANIAL REGION :<br \/> Skull : Of medium length, fairly broad, slightly rounded, rising from<br \/> foreface, making a brow or stop, divided by fluting between eyes,<br \/> dying away along forehead towards occipital bone which should not<br \/> be prominent.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">FACIAL REGION :<br \/> Nose : Nostrils well developed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Muzzle : Foreface of proportionate length to skull, fairly broad and<br \/> deep, well chiselled below eyes.<br \/> Lips : Fairly deep and square.<br \/> Jaws\/Teeth : Jaws strong, with a perfect, regular and complete<br \/> scissor bite, i.e. upper teeth closely overlapping lower teeth and set<br \/> square to the jaws.<br \/> Cheeks : Flat.<br \/> Eyes : Medium size, almond-shaped, not prominent nor sunken, well<br \/> set in (not showing haw), alert, kind expression. Dark hazel. Light<br \/> eyes undesirable.<br \/> Ears : Lobular, good length and width, fairly close to head, set in line<br \/> with eye. Nicely feathered.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">NECK : Good length, strong and muscular, free from throatiness,<br \/> slightly arched, tapering towards head.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">BODY : Strong, neither too long nor too short.<br \/> Loin : Muscular, strong with slight arch and well coupled.<br \/> Chest : Deep, well developed. Well sprung ribs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">TAIL : Previously customarily docked.<br \/> Docked: Set low, never carried above level of back. Well feathered<br \/> with lively action.<br \/> Undocked: Set low, never carried above level of back. Well<br \/> feathered with lively action. In balance with the rest of the dog.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">LIMBS<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">FOREQUARTERS :<br \/> General appearance : Forelegs straight and well boned.<br \/> Shoulder : Sloping and well laid.<br \/> Elbow : Set well to body.<br \/> Metacarpus (Pastern) : Strong, flexible.<br \/> Forefeet : Tight, compact, well rounded, with strong, full pads.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">HINDQUARTERS :<br \/> General appearance : Hind legs well let down.<br \/> Thigh : Broad, muscular, well developed.<br \/> Stifle : Moderately bent.<br \/> Hock : Moderately bent. Coarse hocks undesirable.<br \/> Hind feet : Tight, compact, well rounded, with strong, full pads.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">GAIT \/ MOVEMENT : Strictly his own. Forelegs swing straight<br \/> forward from shoulder, throwing feet well forward in an easy free<br \/> manner. Hocks driving well under body, following in line with<br \/> forelegs. At slow movement may have a pacing stride typical of this<br \/> breed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">COAT<br \/> Hair : Close, straight and weather resisting, never coarse.
